BDD STUDY
We are studying an internet-based cognitive-behavioral therapy treatment for body dysmorphic disorder, BDD-NET. This treatment is offered completely through the internet on a confidential web platform, free of charge. BDD-NET was tested in a Swedish language version in a pilot study and a randomized controlled trial in Sweden. We are now studying an English language version of BDD-NET as a pre-test for a global treatment platform in order to make evidence-based mental health treatments more accessible.
Currently we have accepted as many participants as the study can accommodate and treatment is underway. Registration is closed. Thank you so much for your interest.
What is body dysmorphic disorder?
Body dysmorphic disorder, or BDD, involves a debilitating preoccupation or worry about small defects in one’s personal appearance. This worry is followed by behaviors such as repeatedly checking one’s appearance (e.g. in mirrors) and camouflaging or altering perceived defects. People with BDD tend to avoid certain situations due to appearance concerns, and often pursue unnecessary cosmetic treatments. BDD affects both men and women, and leads to impairment socially, at one’s job, or in other areas of life.
